Auf seinem Feldzug in Ägypten ist Caesar mit seinem Truppen bis vor die Tore Alexandrias vorgerückt. Dort entdeckt er ein junges Mädchen, das sich vor dem gefürchteten Eroberer versteckt hält. Caesar erkennt in ihr die 17jährige Cleopatra. Der alternde Feldherr verfällt ihrem jugendlichen Zauber. Er verspricht, sie zu einer großen Königin zu machen.
