Synopsis
Dans une petite ville de l’État de New York, pendant la guerre de Sécession, l'opposition d'un pacifiste, baptisé Copperhead, aux autres habitants de la ville, est remise en question par le départ de son fils, volontaire pour aller faire la guerre aux rebelles. La fille de son principal opposant, un belliciste acharnée est d'autre part amoureuse du conscrit dont on est sans nouvelles après une première bataille où il est porté disparu...
