Synopsis
Charlie Anderson, fermier de son état à Shenandoah, en Virginie, se retrouve impliqué dans la guerre civile. Il refuse de soutenir les Confédérés, car il s'oppose fermement à l'esclavage, mais ne soutient pas non plus l'Union car il est profondément contre la guerre. Lorsque son fils est fait prisonnier, Charlie part immédiatement à sa recherche. Il va rapidement être confronté aux horreurs de la guerre et va devoir choisir son camp.
