Synopsis
En 1910, dans la petite ville de Burnt Fork au Wyoming, arrive par le train une veuve, embauchée comme gouvernante chez un petit éleveur local. Elle est accompagnée de sa fille de 7 ans. Elle ne tarde pas à envisager de s'installer dans une cabane proche de la maison de son employeur mais doit y renoncer à la suite d'un hiver particulièrement rude...
