Synopsis
L'histoire se déroule en Russie après la révolution bolchevique (1917). Le vieux comte Wolsky (Edward Everett Horton) visite la maison d'édition dirigée par la jeune Nadena Kalenin (Anna Lee), mais celle-ci refuse d'abord de le recevoir. Elle accepte cependant de lui parler lorsqu'elle apprend l'offre alléchante qu'il lui fait : la publication des mémoires de Fedor Mikhaïlovitch Petroff (George Sanders).
