Synopsis
New York. Minable agent publicitaire de Broadway, Sidney Falco sert d'informateur au tout-puissant éditorialiste du journal Le Globe, J.J. Hunsecker, qu'il hait et envie à la fois. Celui-ci le charge d'une basse besogne : briser par un scandale l'idylle nouée entre sa propre sœur Susan et un jeune guitariste, Steve Dallas. Après un premier échec, Falco parvient à ses fins, moyennant chantage…
