Trama
Un giovane scrittore di provincia arriva a New York, dove pare aprirsi per lui una facile carriera e dove diventa l'amante d'una signora del gran mondo. In seguito ha varie disgrazie: la sua fortuna declina, il figlio dell'amante si suicida, lui s'ammala gravemente. Quando la donna finalmente propone di sposarlo, il giovane rifiuta quella facile ricchezza e capisce d'amare un'altra.
