Trama
Dal Mahabharata (grande poema dei Bharata), il più vasto poema epico in sanscrito della letteratura indiana: diciotto libri per 106000 distici, Brook, Jean-Claude Carrière e Marie-Hélène Estienne trassero uno spettacolo teatrale di 9 ore che fu messo in scena al Festival di Avignone nel 1985. Ne fu tratta una edizione TV di quasi 6 ore e una cinematografica che ne dura quasi 3. Con un ritmo largo da saga sfilano avventure eccezionali, violenti conflitti, nascite miracolose, sfide ai dadi, atti di magia, duelli barbari, furibonde battaglie, intermezzi umoristici. Il tema di fondo è tagliare i legami che uniscono gli eroi umani al mondo degli dei, trapiantarli sulla terra, metterli di fronte alle loro responsabilità di individui e poi di cittadini.
