Trama
Dalla tragedia di William Shakespeare: per Macbeth, spinto dalla moglie, la scalata al trono di Scozia è seminata di delitti. Fin dall'incontro con le tre streghe che gli profetizzano il futuro, l'ascesa e la caduta, è trasparente l'idea del regista-interprete: Macbeth non è padrone del suo destino, quel che gli accade è una sorta di incubo. Girato da Welles in sole tre settimane, il film divise la critica dell'epoca.
