Trama
1947, l'erede al trono del Botswana Seretse Khama sta terminando gli studi di giurisprudenza a Londra quando si imbatte nell'impiegata inglese Ruth Williams. È amore a prima vista, e poiché Seretse deve tornare in Africa per assumere il ruolo di re, i due decidono di sposarsi. Ma il resto del mondo non sembra pronto per quel matrimonio fra un capo tribù africano e una suddita dell'impero coloniale inglese.
