Trama
Inghilterra, epoca della Reggenza (1811-1820). Clarissa, nobildonna dell'aristocrazia inglese, convola a giuste nozze con il burbero marchese di Rohan che, ben presto la tradisce con Hester, una sua amica di umili origini. Quest'ultima cerca di favorire in tutti i modi l'innamoramento tra Clarissa e l'avventuriero Rokeby con la speranza di prendere il posto della nobildonna.
