Against the background of economic reform, Shanggong village will be hosting the Nuo Dance Ritual for the one last time. This inspired the filmmaker to explore the origins of this traditional ritual, and to interrogate--and empathize with--the identity crisis that have long plagued an author's pursuit of her craft.
