Hans Hammerschmid (March 12, 1930 – November 30, 2024) was an Austrian composer, film composer, arranger, pianist, and conductor. Trained at the Vienna Music Academy, he began his international career in the early 1950s and worked in jazz, popular music, and film and television scoring. Hammerschmid collaborated with numerous renowned artists, most notably Hildegard Knef, serving as musical director for many of her recordings and co-creating classic songs such as Für mich soll’s rote Rosen regnen. He also composed extensively for film and television, including the iconic theme music for the hit series Die Schwarzwaldklinik. His work left a lasting mark on European popular and screen music.
