Fernando Herrera
Biography
Fernando Herrera is a Brazilian animation supervisor at Framestore. After entering the international visual effects industry, Herrera worked with major vendors, MPC and Framestore, serving as a lead animator on studio films like Pokémon Detective Pikachu, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and Dolittle. At Framestore, he advanced to animation supervisor on Slumberland and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. His contributions to animated character performance on Slumberland earned him a nomination for a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Animated Character in a Photoreal Feature, while his work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 earned him an Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Character Animation in a Live-Action Production, shared with colleagues Chris Hurtt, Nathan McConnel, Daniel Cabral, and Chris McGaw. In addition to his feature film work, Herrera served as a senior animator at Industrial Light & Magic, working on Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Transformers One, followed by work at Wētā FX on the second season of Peacemaker Season 2 and on Stranger Things 5. Alongside his studio career, Herrera has been active in animation education for over a decade. He co-founded BLUE School in Brazil, where he taught character animation, and later served as an instructor at AnimSchool. He is also the founder of Animation Den, an online training platform focused on creature animation, cinematics, and realism.
