Synopsis
Millicent Jordan met tout son temps et son énergie à organiser un dîner en l’honneur de Lord et Lady Ferncliffe, sans se préoccuper des problèmes de son mari Olivier Jordan avec son entreprise maritime au bord de la faillite. On suit ainsi les préparatifs du dîner et la galerie de personnages pittoresques invités à la soirée : l'ancienne actrice Carlotta Vance, gênée financièrement cherche à vendre ses actions; Dan Packard, homme d’affaires arriviste, veut s’accaparer l’entreprise d'Olivier Jordan ; sa femme, Kitty, une extravertie friande de chocolat, attend son médecin, accessoirement son amant ; Larry Renault, amant de la fille des Jordan et acteur has-been en proie aux pires difficultés... Le dîner s’annonce plein de rebondissements.
